Julian Louie Is the New Peter Som
A Californian who came east to study architecture, Julian Louie switched gears during his studies to focus on fashion. "It's a scale change," he says of his segue from buildings to bodies. Like Peter Som—a left coaster and the son of architects, mentored, in Som's case, by Bill Blass—Louie was quickly taken under wing on Seventh Avenue. Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa selected him for the Vogue Italia/AWI-sponsored Protégé Project, and he was tapped to join Tom Scott and Dushane Noble to put together TSE's upcoming collection. For Spring, he's also striking out on his own with a line he describes as "contoured and body-conscious." A slacker Louie is not.
