Temporary Art Piece Wins Turner Prize

Richard Wright has won the 2009 Turner Prize. His gold leaf ‘no title’ piece used techniques employed by Renaissance fresco-makers and it was pretty unusual that something that is so aesthetically pleasing won an award which is normally given to the abstract. What we particularly like about the piece is that on January 3 next year it will be destroyed. Even though it was incredibly intensive to create the piece it is just of the moment: the gallery will paint over Wright’s work to make room for a new exhibition at the start of the New Year.

The Guardian has an interesting background video here.
